Yes, the code usually works and typing it in can be quite instructive. It is very comprehensive and can be a great reference, since it includes complete tables of constants and methods for a lot of VBA functionality.

However, I take some issue with the quality of the content and how the book was structured.

Macros 2010 excel free ebook microsoft download and vba

There was a noticeable lack of logical progression in the chapters: Their contributions are acknowledged, of course, but there is no attempt at reformatting them or integrating them into any sort of pedagogical structure. I will also say I found the editing really lazy. There is too much fluff. Many of the chapters include a number of veiled, unnecessary consultancy plugs and insufferably boring eighties war stories from when Bill was mastering Lotus and wrestling with COBOL formatting issues.

This adds nothing of value for the vast majority of readers and no self-respecting editor would have left it in. After going back and forth on it for a while, I ended up with a rating of three stars for this book, mostly due to its cheap price and utility value as a reference.

Having read a number of VBA books now, I feel there is an obvious difference between the ones that are actually instructing the reader versus the ones that are just glorified code dumps. This one falls somewhere in-between, really too much in the latter direction than I would have liked to see. Bill rated it liked it Jan 11, Steve Feinstein rated it liked it Aug 31, William Nye rated it it was amazing Apr 27, Christine Brooks rated it it was amazing Feb 04, Joanie rated it really liked it Jan 04, Cher rated it liked it Jan 18, John Hunter rated it really liked it Feb 26, While Excel has the formulas to change the letter case of the text, it makes you do that in another set of cells.

Note that in this case, I have used UCase to make the text case Upper. You can use LCase for lower case.
