I can't wait to read the next book. Mar 27, Jennifer rated it it was amazing Shelves: I truly believe that her books and writing just gets better with each book. The reason I am such a fan is because she truly knows how to capture feelings in a book. She also isn't shy about creating a story that is truly like a real life fairytale.
Plus throw in her hotter than hot cowboys and you get some panty melting sex scenes ; Broken Dreams was no different. I know some people might say the "cheese" factor is over the top, but that is truly what I love about her books.
Every girl dreams about their "Prince Charming" coming and sweeping them off their feet, well Kelly puts that down on paper. I also love how Kelly incorporates music into her stories. A song can truly help the reader get the true feel of a scene I know I have found a ton of new music just from her books She also has a fantastic way of incorporating old characters back into the story.
She shows that readers that family and friends are the most essential part of life, as long as you have both a person can overcome anything. Yes there were some bumps in the road but we didn't have that "misunderstanding" and separation period we see in most Contemporary Romance books. I have to say I was holding my breath for most of the book just waiting for that moment and I was so excited when it never came.
Now I am not saying that Reed and Courtney didn't have their ups and downs in this book, but they just learned how to work everything out together.
I was glad to see that, because we had so much drama with them in Broken that I was hoping this book wasn't going to bring in more drama. Like I said we originally meet Reed and Courtney in book 1 Broken….
We do know that both characters are broken in some fashion, from events of the past, but we never found out what. Well in Broken Dreams we find out all about Reed and Courtney's past. We find out Courtney's past event right away in the Epilogue and Reed's comes out later in the story. I loved finding out so early because then we got to watch how they overcame their fears and doubts to become better and stronger people.
iTunes is the world's easiest way to organize and add to your digital media collection.
I loved that Reed and Courtney had such a strong bond and no matter what were willing to work it all out together. Courtney was still that sassy, snarky, gotta love her character, but we also got to see a softer, more vulnerable side to Courtney.
What Courtney endured as a sixteen year old girl was just horrible. The only thing I had a problem with when it came to that storyline was that everything she went through I truly believe that she would've needed some kind of therapy. Just my opinion I did really like that Kelly wasn't afraid to show a Hero cry. It helped make Reed's feelings more believable. I know some might think that he is a whimp for crying, but I truly believed his reactions are the same as a real life person when it comes to the truths that were revealed in this story.
Plus I just couldn't stop swooning over Reed. As with all of Kelly's books, I was glad we got to see so much of Layton and Whitley in this book.
I love when past characters still play an important part in the next book, because it helps keep the reader up to date with what is going on with them. This book will truly have you swooning ; For more reviews go to Book Bitches Blog Jan 25, Kim rated it it was amazing Shelves: In my previous review I called it an "Anti-relationship". They had an immediate reaction to each other and it was often not a positive one. They fought, fussed, resisted, denied, and hurt each other.
They were both so stubborn and their communication was completely ineffective and often times painful. Courtney had up big walls and had huge tru 4. Courtney had up big walls and had huge trust issues. She dreamed of perfect book boyfriends, but her past had shown her that those types of men do not really exist.
She pushed Reed away knowing he could get to her and cause intense reactions in her. And in trying for another option, she not only pushed him away further but also found herself hurt again.
Reed also had issues from his past that caused him to shut down, be insecure, and avoid real feelings. They were a complete mess. Their dreams were subdued by demons of their past. They were afraid of getting close and hurt. The past, their fears, and other people kept them apart and from admitting their true feelings for a long time. But when Layton and Whitley went on their honeymoon, they forced their friends to deal with each other finally.
So they had no choice but to face their feelings, fears, insecurities and try to figure out what they really wanted and needed. I have been rooting for these two all along.
I loved their fiery interactions as well as their sweet ones. I loved seeing them grow and change individually and together. Once they opened up, it was a whole new world of discovery for them. Reed could be so endearing and swoon worthy. He really tried hard to be who she needed. And Court was strong willed and sassy, but sweet under her armor.
Once they let go, they had hot chemistry and passion. And once they got under each other's layers they were understanding, supportive, and surprisingly functional. Only sunlit roads and dreams coming true from this point on. They stand together when needed, swap secrets, and push each other when necessary. I enjoyed seeing Layton and Whitley's happy story continue. I admit that at times I was thinking that this was a much happier book than Broken.
Reed and Court could be so sweet and loving that is almost seemed like too much happiness and not enough drama.
But then I realized that Reed and Courtney had so many misunderstandings and bad times in Broken , that they deserved to have some happiness and easy times. But of course, there was also some drama, twists, and past issues causing tension and adding to their fears and insecurities.
And there were new challenges and changes for both of the couples to face. But all in all, this was a sweet, funny, engaging read with likable characters, strong ties, and deep connections. Kelly Elliott creates these characters and communities that suck you in and make you feel like you know them.
You feel their sadness, pain, and joy. You become invested in their outcomes. I loved the sneak peek into the next book Broken Promises and I cannot wait for their story and more in the future with these characters. Thanks to Kelly Elliott for providing me with a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Jun 19, Liv rated it really liked it Shelves: If you have not read the first book, "Broken," then I suggest you back up and start reading that book first as you will be lost since "Broken Dreams" follows, and starts where "Broken" ended. It has been a while since I read Broken and I really wish I would have listened to it again before venturing into this one. First of all, be prepared for a fabulous audiobook.
Shirl Rae is excellent. She If you have not read the first book, "Broken," then I suggest you back up and start reading that book first as you will be lost since "Broken Dreams" follows, and starts where "Broken" ended. She is one of my favorite female narrators. I especially love the southern accent she provided for Reed.
What a gorgeous voice Nelson has! I need to find more audiobooks he performs in! The combination of both Shirl and Nelson made this one sumptuous listen! As far as the story is concerned, the love development between Reed and Courtney is low on the angst and high on the fun and romance. In fact, this is what I consider an indulgence for the helpless romantic. Reed and Courtney do face personal issues and conflicts brought on by outside sources, however, they are resolved or addressed either quickly or within their proper timing in the plot development.
But, the romance between Reed and Courtney is fun, sexy, cute and continuous. What a perfect combination for two best friends from NYC, Whitely and Courtney, to fall in love with their gorgeous southern gentlemen, Layton and Reed. This is a sweet romance that takes readers into the beautiful landscape of the Texan countryside, to the range riding horses, to the vibe of dancing in hot night clubs, and two-stepping in town circles. Oh, and the sex, God, is it just me or Court was made to look kind of nympho "I need you inside me" all the time Apr 01, Jeannie rated it liked it Shelves: I was so excited to read about Courtney and Reed because well, Court was pretty bad ass and funny in Broken but I was disappointed reading this book. There were a few scenes where you saw the Courtney from Broken but for the most part it was too sappy sweet with a bunch of sex and so many "I'm gonna comes" thrown in that I just rolled my eyes.
The book was ok until they started having sex then it was just too much especially view spoiler [ when they get back from the hospital and he using a vibrator on her 2 days after birth. Are you effing kidding me? I've had 2 kids and I didn't want anything but an ice pack near my vagina 2 days after birth.
And the fact that both Whit and Court got pregnant during that 6 weeks was just stupid. At least make it sound somewhat realistic, damn! Sadly, this one just didn't do it for me. Apr 03, Krissy rated it it was amazing Shelves: I'm a Kelly Elliott fan it's true and I am yet to read something of hers that I haven't completely enjoyed. Broken Dreams sees Courtney and Reed, who met in Broken, stuck house sitting together for Whitley and Layton while they are on their honeymoon.
We immediately get the aftermath of Courtney hearing her boyfriend cheating on her and I loved how Reed came to Courtney's defence.
Courtney is still the sassy, strong and independent girl with a troubled past and Reed who has been in love with her s I'm a Kelly Elliott fan it's true and I am yet to read something of hers that I haven't completely enjoyed. Courtney is still the sassy, strong and independent girl with a troubled past and Reed who has been in love with her since they met shows he is the sexy, romantic and swoon worthy, plant loving prince charming she has been waiting for. There was a lot of hot sex in their story, some angst and romance and I found myself laughing out loud many times at the interactions between the characters.
I loved getting to see more of Whitley and Layton and the banter between Courtney and Whitley, while sometimes full of potty mouthed inappropriateness had me laughing and enjoying their relationship.
I thought that the story flowed with ease in the usual Kelly Elliott style and I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm really looking forward to their kids story and their future. Apr 03, C. Standing rated it it was amazing. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.

I wasn't sure why but I kept getting this niggling feeling that Reed was going to do something really stupid and cheat on her, especially in the momen Loved this! I wasn't sure why but I kept getting this niggling feeling that Reed was going to do something really stupid and cheat on her, especially in the moments when she shut him out.
But he didn't. He stayed true to his love for her. THEY stayed true to their love for each other and it was the perfect story. I'm not too keen on her other stories, I'm not sure why, I just think they're harder to read and focus on when the POV keeps switching.
The other characters will get their shot, so they really don't need to be in the others stories as much. And I can't wait for Taylor and Walker's story!
Jan 15, Justine rated it did not like it. I'm sorry to say that this was my first try at reading romance novels, and I'm now a bit gun shy. The first book was tolerable, but this literally had me gagging out loud. Too many cheesy and gross sex scenes, and poorly written characters. The men didn't talk to each other realistically at all, and everything was resolved too easily and two fast.
Spoiler alert: So, the main character is confronted by her rapist at her brother's wedding, is attacked by him and spends the whole time crying for her I'm sorry to say that this was my first try at reading romance novels, and I'm now a bit gun shy. So, the main character is confronted by her rapist at her brother's wedding, is attacked by him and spends the whole time crying for her husband.
Her husband instinctively knows that she needs him and that she is being attacked with zero evidence, and runs across an enormous house to get to her and save her. Then, it turns out the bride was also raped by the same dude and the wedding is ruined, because all of the women are too hysterical to pick themselves up off the floor.
The attacker may or may not be arrested it's pretty nebulous. This also happened over a span of about ten pages. The rest of the book is gag-worthy sex scenes. Apr 11, Cara Q rated it it was ok.
I just could not get on board with this book. I just do not understand how anyone enjoyed this book.
The " I love you" , " I will do anything to make you happy" and " i cant live without you" lines every two minutes was sickening. I am sorry, it just was not realistic. The connection was not formed for the reader.
I read book 1 so I knew a little back history, but even then it was not enough. Kelly really needed to build the characters more and devel I just could not get on board with this book. Kelly really needed to build the characters more and develop their bond and relationship for us.
I just did not feel a connection. The story line was cute, some parts where ok, but really the ball was dropped with this one. I am most surprised that people actually enjoyed this mush fest! I love to read. Any genre! However this love story was like reading about high school kids. I get it they love each other but it seems like the constant I love yous were due to lack of a scene closing. The sex was just over the top.
I love a hot sex scene but these scenes were just unrealistic and over the top. No one wants sex during labor, nor 3 days after the birth. This book and the first book had some strong potential if the focus would have been on the story itself and less of a sex and I I love to read.
This book and the first book had some strong potential if the focus would have been on the story itself and less of a sex and I love you marathon.

I can't bring myself to finish this series. I will look for a recent book of the authors and see if the writing is better. I will read reviews first.
Courtney, the worldly freelance editor has a secret that gives her night terrors. Mar 21, Laura Johnson rated it liked it Shelves: For me this one was just ok. I had some difficulty getting into it due to its repetitiveness. I'm not a big fan of the hero crying ALL the time. Something was missing and the characters were missing a certain spark. Overall, is was fair read. May 03, Rachel rated it really liked it. I agree with many others - this book was simply sugary sweet.
If you are looking for a gushy sweet love story with no angst, then this is your story! Sometimes books like these are just what you need: Readers Also Enjoyed. He makes a vow to himself to never let love in again. The last thing Layton needed or wanted was more heartache. Whitley Reynolds grew up in a privileged home in upstate New York.
When she landed the star football player in high school no one was surprised, not even Whitley. She dreamed of a life with Roger living in New York City and happily followed him there. The first time Roger hit her for arguing with him about a dinner party, she forgave him. The more it happened, the further Whitley withdrew from her friends and family.
One fateful day things go to far. Fleeing with her best friend Courtney, Whitley was determined to put her past behind her and start a new life in the small town of Llano, Texas, where no one would ever find out about her past. Will they both ever learn to trust and love again, or will their pasts come back to haunt them, keeping them both alone and… Broken.
Courtney Will always dreamed of finding her Prince Charming and living happily ever after, like in the fairy tales she read as a child. Her dreams were shattered one fateful night when her prince turned out to be her worst nightmare. Burying herself in her job as an editor, Courtney tried to forget her past, and she lost hope of ever finding true love.
Reed and Courtney have each spent years building walls to guard their hearts, so when their feelings for one another explode into something unexpected, they argue and throw hurtful words at each other in hopes of avoiding the truth.
Will Reed end up being the Prince Charming Courtney has dreamed of her entire life? Is Courtney the woman who will help Reed move past the guilt and anger, so he can embrace love? Can their broken dreams become their happily ever after? All of these are a result from broken promises. Love has two paths, happiness and heartbreak. Sometimes those paths intertwine.
